Between 2006-2018 dr Tummers has been a part-time tutor-researcher at the Department Urbanism, Faculty of Architecture and the Build Environment, TU Delft, where she defended her PhD thesis (2017) on co-housing, spatial planning and energy-transition entitled: ‘between passive house engineers and active inhabitants: learning from co-housing initiatives’.
Tummers has been visiting lecturer at several European universities and is involved in international research collaborations such as the Cooperative Regional Research and Innovation Agency CORRINA, gender mainstreaming advisors for municipal and regional authorities in spatial planning, of ARL international working group on gender and spatial development (2014-2017) and the European Co-housing Researchers Network. She is also a ‘Gender, Science and Technology’ trainer for early stage researchers and for post-docs as well as for professionals.
In 1999 Tummers created Tussen Ruimte (Intermediate Space), independent designers and technical consultants specialised in sustainable, energy efficient renovation. Based in Rotterdam, Tussen Ruimte acts as consulting engineer for housing initiatives and resident organisations.
